When I decided to run for Summit County Council, I was filled with a mix of emotions—excitement, anxiety, and a lot of trepidation. Was I the right person to represent an entire community? Could I live up to the responsibility? Ultimately, I realized that stepping forward was the right thing to do. It’s easy to stand on the sidelines and critique, but it takes courage to step into the arena. My community has shaped me into who I am today, and I felt a profound responsibility to give back.
The campaign was a whirlwind of activity, and along the way, I discovered something about myself: I’m not as much of an introvert as I thought. (Well, I still am—let’s be honest—but maybe just a little less than I believed.) Meeting people, hearing their stories, and engaging with their concerns pushed me out of my comfort zone in the best way possible. It was a journey of personal growth. It reminded me that sometimes, the things we think will drain us end up energizing us instead.
The idea of connection to people was reinforced during one particularly meaningful moment. A resident reached out for help with a housing issue, and I was able to assist them. At the time, it didn’t feel like a huge effort on my part. But later, I received a call from someone else, sharing how much that small gesture had meant to the person I helped. It was a humbling moment—a reminder that even the simplest actions can have a profound impact. I don’t need or want recognition for what I do, but knowing that I made a difference in someone’s life was deeply rewarding.
The incredible support of my family, friends, and community created an almost overwhelming sense of gratitude. This journey was a family affair. My wife and kids were by my side, cheering me on and campaigning with me. My dad, mom, aunt, and extended family jumped in with donations, volunteered their time, and encouraged me every step of the way. It truly was “Team Ford Family,” and I’ll never forget their unwavering belief in me
I feel honored and ready to get to work. The trust placed in me is not something I take lightly. My past experiences—as a nurse, lawyer, and business leader—have all prepared me. Each chapter of my life has taught me something valuable, from developing empathy and perspective to sharpening my communication and problem-solving skills. Those lessons will guide me as I work to make Summit County healthier, more connected, and more prosperous.
Looking ahead, I am committed to listening to and staying connected with the community I serve. Whether hosting regular meetings, supporting local businesses, or simply being accessible for a phone call, I want to ensure that District 5 feels heard and proud of our collective efforts. There’s a lot to do, but with your support, we can make incredible progress together.
Thank you to everyone who supported me—whether through a vote, a conversation, or a simple word of encouragement. This victory isn’t just mine; it’s ours. Here’s to building a better future, one step at a time.
OH! If you have ever considered pursuing an elected office, all I can think is why did I wait. Get out there and let your voice be heard. – Brandon
